Wordpress Site with Customizations

Destin Interactive hired NearSource, Inc to setup a wordpress based website for www.getmorevacations.com. The client was very familiar with the Wordpress open source CMS (Content Management System), and didn't want to learn a different or custom made system. The Get More Vacations site is a destination search based site where different hotels and destinations pay to be listed on the site and can be found by different amenities or by location.

In order to accomplish this project NearSource first created a Wordpress template based on the client provided design to get all the content pages up and working. Besides the main template for the site, several different layouts were made so the client can choose which layout goes for each page giving them a lot of more flexibility. To add the search by location/amenities features the development customized the WordPress functionality so that when creating a new listing a user can specify what location it belongs to and which amenities do they have. The team created several custom PHP pages that handle the searches into the Wordpress database and returning the matching properties.

The team added different modules and features following the client's requests. They added the PicLens Wordpress photo gallery plug-in so that the site administrator can enter multiple photos for each listing. A fan comments form was created so fan comments and photos can be submitted to the site. The client also wanted to setup a sweepstake site so that visitors can register and be eligible to win free vacations. NearSource customized a 3rd party solution for the sweepstakes so that it had the same branding and look & feel of the original GetMoreVacations.com website.

During development all progress was done on one of NearSource, Inc development servers, and the client was able to upload and setup all the listings before going live. Then NearSource assisted with setting up the domain, and deploying all the development to the client's server. Training and later template customizations were provided to the client as well.
